SIO 261: Energetics & Kinetics in Marine Chemistry
Class notes (PDF) - Fall 2000

Energetics

1. Review of basic thermodynamic relationships etc.
2. Applications of thermodynamic principles to marine systems
3. Advantages / limitations of the thermodynamic approach
Kinetics
4. Rates of chemical processes
5. Kinetics at interfaces
6. Systems with mixing and reactions

This course emphasizes the physical chemical principles that control chemistry in marine systems. After a basic introduction to thermodynamics and its application to an understanding of the marine environment, the emphasis will be on the study of a variety of kinetic processes.
