The main goal of the organization of Collaborative studies or of other between-laboratory method comparisons is to allow the measurement community (as well as the various individual laboratories) to assess the quality of their measurement techniques.
Forthcoming Studies
There are no collaborative studies being planned at this time. Please contact Andrew Dickson if you would like to ask us to arrange one.(adickson@ucsd.edu) if you would be interested in participating.
Complete Studies or In Progress
Total dissolved inorganic carbon
The first stage of a collaborative study was conducted in 1991, and a complete report published. (Bibliography #2).
A further smaller comparison of the performance of SOMMA systems was conducted in 1993. No report is available .
A collaborative study was organized by PICES Working Group 13 in 1999 and 2000. A brief report is available as Appendix B in Bibliography #26.
Total alkalinity
Samples were distributed to US laboratories involved with the DOE Global CO2 Survey in 1994. No report is available.
A collaborative study was organized by PICES Working Group 13 in 1999 and 2000. A brief report is available as Appendix B in Bibliography #26.
pH (total hydrogen ion concentration scale)
No studies have been run.
p(CO2)
A study of systems for underway p(CO2) measurement was carried out at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in June 1994. This study was run under the auspices of the Joint IOC/JGOFS Carbon DIoxide Advisory Panel. Brief articles were published in US JGOFS News (Bibliography #5, #9).
A further study was organized by Dr. Nojiri (NIES, Tsukuba) in March 2003. Interim reports are available at the International Ocean Carbon Coordination Panel Website (under "IOCCP Workshops"): http://ioc.unesco.org/ioccp/
Carbon-13 levels in total dissolved inorganic carbon
Samples for this study were distributed in 1995. This study was run under the auspices of the Joint IOC/JGOFS Carbon Dioxide Advisory Panel.
